Caregiver Support Services

As a family caregiver, you may find yourself in unfamiliar situation with new responsibilities, many of which can be intimidating or even scary. At times, you may feel overwhelmed and alone, but despite its challenges, care-giving can also be rewarding. There are a lot of things you can do to make the care-giving process easier for both you and your loved one. We offer professionally led support groups that provide an opportunity to interact with other caregivers, share techniques of care-giving, and provide educational information. Treat yourself to a break each month in a light-hearted atmosphere to talk about ‘everyday topics’ and relieve the stress of caring for a loved one.

Congregate Respite Program:

This program provides relief for a family caregiver 15 hours each week.  The caregiver is invited to bring his/her loved one to the Senior Center Monday - Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. where a professionally trained member of the BSS staff will provide care allowing the caregiver a much deserved break.  Some restrictions do apply and prior approval is required for this program.  For more information, please contact Congregate Program Manager, Katherine Donovan at 304-263-8873 ext. 4114.

In-Home Respite

The Caregiver Respite Program offers an individual who cares for an older parent, grandparent or friend, a personal break from their role as caregiver. We provide a trained, skilled professional who will come to the family's home and care for an elderly adult while the primary caregiver attends to his or her own needs.
